A point on the hearing of WW8II @ KG0VL and WW8II not hearing KG0VL as good , we both use the SAL antenna for receive.  BUT WW8II uses an INVERTED V antenna, mostly HORIZONTAL for TRANSMIT and I believe KG0VL uses a top-loaded vertical for transmit.

My point is there is a polarization loss between vertical and Horizontal. This could account for the difference in the 1 KW signal levels being detected less @ WW8II  vs KG0VL   Just some thought.  I note this because KG0VL  consistently receives WW8II better than WW8II receives KG0VL  and we both use the same receiving antennas    But different transmit antennas.
