03 January 2020
What a difference a day can make!  Actually two days.  On the 1st of January, we had what was likely the best propagation we've seen over the past twelve months.  Yesterday, the 2nd, was still good but noticeably down from the 1st.  Today signals on the distant paths were the worst we've experienced in about the past eight weeks.  KGØVL in Iowa was just barely able to copy signals from the GA, NC and SC area whereas on the 1st the same paths were good Q5 SSB quality.  WW8II, Michigan, for many months routinely had a good Q5 SSB signal into the Southeast was weak today.  After a few good weeks in early December, propagation became unstable during the last weeks of the month.  During that time there was a solar corona hole facing earth which rotated close to out of view by the 1st of January.  Now another corona hole has appeared.  Perhaps this is responsible for today's propagation change.  We will see what happens as this solar disturbance rotates across the solar disk.

17:45 WW8II-BRUCE: W4DEX QSB 529 COPY CALL

17:45 KG0VL-JEFF: W4DEX weak, yet 519-529 steady, mostly above the noise level.

17:46 AB4AM-ROB: WW8II no copy so far

17:47 K4FI-DOUG: No copy WW8II

17:47 W4DEX-DEX: WW8II initially 539 down into the noise after first minute, back up to 549 at end
