23 January 2020

Signals on most paths today had a lot of QSB.  Even the 51 mile distance between KP2AE and W4DEX ranged from S9 to close to the noise at times.  WW8II and W4DEX was able to make a quick S2 SSB QSO on a quick peak.  Otherwise, SSB on that path was unusable.  CW copy was fairly consistent with WW8II running between 579 and 529.  No SSB contact was made between WY3T and W4DEX but CW was fairly consistent copy.  KP2AE also copied WW8II and WY3T on CW.   WW8II brielfy detected a signal during the CW transmission from WY3T.  That is about an 814 mile path.  KØAWU reported WW8II's CW running between 3 and 10 dB above his noise.  K5HFG detected CW from WW8II and KØAWU but had no copy.

You may have noticed the blog date color above changing from bright green on the 1st and 10th of January.  This is an attempt to quickly identify how we found band conditions each day by scrolling through the past dates.  Perhaps a numbering system would be better?  Any suggestions or comments can be posted by clicking on "comment" at the bottom of the blog.
===================================================================
17:29 WW8II-BRUCE: hearing SSB at the noise level

17:30 WW8II-BRUCE: w4dex 51

17:30 WW8II-BRUCE: w4dex calling k5hfg 51

17:31 K5HFG: I detect SSB on scope but no voice copy

17:31 WY3T-TIM: W4DEX in the noise

17:32 W4DEX-DEX: KP2AE the only one heard so far.....QSB on him

17:33 WY3T-TIM: Idle noise today is S4 SSB and S2 CW

17:35 W4DEX-DEX: WW8II quick S2 SSB QSO

17:36 WW8II-BRUCE: CONFIRM SOLID QSO WITH W4DEX SSB 52 BOTH WAYS

17:37 WW8II-BRUCE: QSB ON W4DEX SSB FROM 52 TO AT THE NOISE ABOUT 30 SEC TIME

17:39 WY3T-TIM: W4DEX almost readable in the noise on SSB

17:40 WW8II-BRUCE: W4DEX 559

17:41 WW8II-BRUCE: W4DEX QSB NOW 579

17:41 WW8II-BRUCE: W4DEX STILL 559 AT THE END

17:42 WY3T-TIM: W4DEX CW 529 no QSB

17:42 K5HFG: W4DEX out of noise now 519

17:42 WW8II-BRUCE: K5HFG NO COPY

17:43 WY3T-TIM: K5HFG CW no copy

17:44 W4DEX-DEX: K5HFG not heard

17:45 W4DEX-DEX: K0AWU not heard

17:45 WY3T-TIM: K0AWU CW no copy

17:46 WW8II-BRUCE: K0AWU NO SIGNAL DETECTED

17:46 K5HFG: K0AWU detect on scope,no copy

17:46 W4DEX-DEX: WY3T Initially 549

17:47 WW8II-BRUCE: WY3T CAN DETECT IN THE NOISE FOR JUST A FEW SEC.

17:48 K5HFG: WY3T detect on scope, no copy

17:48 W4DEX-DEX: WY3T QSB in and out of the noise several times during the 2 min transmission

17:48 W4DEX-DEX: WW8II 579

17:50 W4DEX-DEX: WW8II slow QSB down to 539 at EOT

17:50 K5HFG: WW8II Detect on scope, no copy

17:50 K0AWU-BILL: WW8II only signal heard today 3db to 14db above noise, signal peaked last 20sec

17:50 WY3T-TIM: WW8II CW no Copy

17:50 KP2AE-JOE: wy3t 31n maybe ww8ii 53n then gone

17:51 WW8II-BRUCE: HEARING SSB DEEP IN THE NOISE UNABLE TO COPY WHO

17:52 WW8II-BRUCE: W4DEX QSB SIGNAL BUILDING TO 51

17:52 K0AWU-BILL: WW8II first min and a half 3-10db above the noise. Tough conditions again today. Will low band noise always result in poor signals too?

17:53 WY3T-TIM: Only copy W4DEX on CW and almost on SSB sometimes

17:53 WW8II-BRUCE: INTERESTING NOTE BILL ON THE NOISE LOW SIGNALS WEAK

17:53 K5HFG: I see SSB sigs on scope but no copy

17:54 WY3T-TIM: Normal idle noise here but very poor prop today

17:55 WW8II-BRUCE: IF I COULD FIND A WAY TO ELIMINATE THE NOISE AND NOT THE INTENDED SIGNAL LIKE WE DO WITH DEEP SPACE PHOTOS I WOULD HEAR EVERYONE

17:56 WW8II-BRUCE: ASTROPHOTORGY WE TAKE A NOISE FRAME THEN SUBTRACT THAT FROM THE SIGNAL WE WANT THAT IS HOW WE GET ALL THOSE GREAT PICTURES YOU REALLY CANNOT SEE IN THE TELESCOPE
