8 February 2020

Propagation was poor compared to recent days.  Even the KGØVL / KØAWU path was poor:

17:53 K0AWU-BILL: KG0VL -- OUCH -- 21db first 30sec QSB to 15db back up to 23db at 1min mark 30sec later slow fade to 0db for last 15sec
17:54 K0AWU-BILL: Never before had I not heard KG0VL entire sequence

The KGØVL / W4DEX path was also very weak even on peaks.  A quick SSB exchange was made on a peak but at times no signal could be detected.

WY3T into the Carolinas was capable only during peaks between fast deep QSB fades.

Signals between KP2AE, WA4LDU, K4FI and W4DEX were noticeable stronger than normal with very little QSB.   We have seen many times now that when propagation out to a hundred miles is very good the DX signals are down.

"A coronal hole is facing our planet today. It is a slim southern extension of the northern hemisphere polar coronal hole. The effects of this coronal hole could reach Earth on Monday (10 February) as a high speed solar wind stream could sweep past our planet and spark some more high latitude aurora displays."

17:27 WA4LDU-JOE: very high noise here today

17:29 WY3T-TIM: Idle noise about typical here SSB is S4-5 and CW is S2-3

17:31 KG0VL-JEFF:  Noise S-0 RX, S-5 TX

17:34 K0AWU-BILL: KG0VL just over the noise SSB -- poorest I have heard him

17:35 KG0VL-JEFF: KØAWU just detectable at noise level. Poor conditions.

17:37 KG0VL-JEFF: Hearing W4DEX very weak on SSB

17:39 WA4LDU-JOE: N4AOW is in there

17:41 K4FI-DOUG: W4DEX 599

17:42 WY3T-TIM: W4DEX CW is 599 with slight QSB at the end

17:42 WA4LDU-JOE: W4DEX CW 599 on BOG

17:42 KG0VL-JEFF: W4DEX 529 very weak

17:42 WA4LDU-JOE: K4FI CW 599 +

17:43 W4DEX-DEX: K4FI 599

17:43 WY3T-TIM: K4FI CW is 529 deep QSB

17:44 KG0VL-JEFF: Heard K4FI for about 20 seconds, just at noise level

17:44 K4FI-DOUG: WA4LDU 599

17:45 W4DEX-DEX: WA4LDU 589....notice a bit of QSB I did not see on K4FI

17:45 WY3T-TIM: WA4LDU CW is 529 then faded out to unreadable several times

17:46 KG0VL-JEFF: Could not hear WA4LDU

17:47 K4FI-DOUG: WY3T 3-3-9 light QSB, Faded down abt halfway through.

17:47 W4DEX-DEX: WY3T lot of QSB, from 539 to 579

17:48 KG0VL-JEFF: No copy from WY3T

17:48 WA4LDU-JOE: WY3T CW 559 with QSB to the noise at one point in the second half then back

17:49 KG0VL-JEFF: KØAWU 549 peaks with qsb

17:50 WY3T-TIM: K0AWU no copy

17:50 WA4LDU-JOE: no copy K0AWU CW

17:50 K4FI-DOUG: No copy K0AWU

17:51 WY3T-TIM: KG0VL CW no copy

17:51 K4FI-DOUG: KG0VL is in the noise at the beginning and then nothing

17:52 W4DEX-DEX: KG0VL barely detectable only after about the 90-second mark

17:53 K0AWU-BILL: KG0VL -- OUCH -- 21db first 30sec QSB to 15db back up to 23db at 1min mark 30sec later slow fade to 0db for last 15sec

17:54 K0AWU-BILL: Never before had I not heard KG0VL entire sequence

17:56 KG0VL-JEFF: Hearing weak SSB to my SE

17:57 WY3T-TIM: W4DEX in the noise now on SSB

17:58 W4DEX-DEX: One of those days when locals are up and DX is down

17:58 WY3T-TIM: K4FI in the noise but came up some

17:59 KG0VL-JEFF: W4DEX still weak on SSB

18:00 WY3T-TIM: Fast and deep QSB today

18:06 KG0VL-JEFF: W4DEX weak SSB QSO 5X1

18:07 W4DEX-DEX: KA9FTM 53 SSB QSO

18:08 KG0VL-JEFF: No signal from KA9FTM
